Prostate biopsy is a test to determine prostate cancers cells in patients. The procedure uses sample taken from the prostate area of men. Prostate is a small walnut shape gland that produces semen in men. An urologist is one who executes the prostate Biopsy in the patients. A fine needle is used to take several samples from the prostate through the rectum.
Doctors may recommend for this test in the following situations:
- Prostate specific Antigen(PSA) level is high,
- If the prostate gland continues hardening,
- If no cancer cells found in previous biopsy test, but PSA continue rising,
- Abnormal growth of cells but no cancer cells detected in previous biopsy.
There are many other minor benefits involved. Few risks involved in Prostate biopsy is quick spreading of infection after ultra sound biopsy, bleeding from the biopsy site, problem in urinating, blood in the semen may last up to six weeks after biopsy done.
Good news for patients is that this test can be done effectively with the help of Advanced Da Vinci Robotic surgery (ART). Moreover, an advance local anaesthesia is done prior to the surgery which helps men to avoid the dreading pain. Unlike open prostatectomy, it does not allow the spreading of the deceased cell anymore.
